Job Title: Emergency Hire - Crossing Guard
Reports to: Director of School Safety
Location: Central Office

Position Summary:
The Crossing Guards at Lawrence Public Schools play a vital role in community safety by helping pedestrians—particularly students—cross streets safely and by managing traffic at designated crosswalks

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assess traffic flow and identify safe gaps for crossing.
• Direct and control pedestrian and vehicular traffic using stop signs, flags, or hand signals.
• Guide children and other pedestrians safely across streets.
• Educate pedestrians—especially students—on proper crossing procedures and safety rules.
• Monitor crossing areas for hazards, unsafe driving, or suspicious activity and report issues to authorities
• Maintain a visible, professional presence and wear required safety gear such as highvisibility vests.
• Communicate with school officials and law enforcement regarding safety concerns.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong observation and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and alert in busy traffic environments.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and work in various weather conditions.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and pedestrian safety regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
• Demonstrated communication skills
• Current authorization to work in the United States.
• Minimum of a High School Diploma preferred
• Bilingual preferred.

Pay Range
• $20 per hour
